THE VAL D'ORCIA

We're pleased to offer you a charming day tour of the Val d'Orcia.
A selection of countless villages, views, and curiosities that we hope you'll enjoy!

We will show you some passage points that you can set on your navigator (Google Maps, if possible)

From Lucignano head towards
taverns
Tower of Siena
MONTEFOLLONICO is a small fortified village from which you have a first view of Pienza.
PIENZA is the most famous village in the Val d'Orcia; visiting the center, entering through the main gate, the street will lead you to the square overlooking Palazzo Piccolomini
the Pozzo dei Cani and the Cathedral of Pienza, continuing along the street on the right you will find characteristic alleys (Dell'Amore, del Bacio...) that lead to the view
along the walls, giving you one of the most beautiful views of the Valley (Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet was filmed in the town).
In the immediate vicinity of Pienza, in the direction of Monticchiello, you can find the
PIEVE A CORSIGNANO DEI SANTI VITO E MODESTO, a small Romanesque church where Pope Pius II was baptized (to whom we owe a good deal
part of Pienza itself) and his nephew Pius III. The church is full of particular esoteric curiosities
MONTICCHIELLO, a tiny village, is an unmissable destination because it offers a panoramic view of Tuscany's most famous winding, cypress-lined road.
Road that you will travel following the signs for
Castelluccio, where you will find a dirt road accessible to any car that will take you to
La Foce, from where you'll have another breathtaking view of a cypress-lined road. At this point, you can set your navigator towards
CHECCHE OAK: An immense oak tree over 450 years old; the Checche are magpies that have populated its branches for centuries and are said to have shared them with witches.
during the Sabbath. The oak certainly played a role as a weapons hideout for the partisans and is the first green monument in Italy, then reach
BAGNO VIGNONI, passing Spedaletto Castle. Bagno Vignoni is one of the spas in the Valley, with its characteristic pool.
in the historic center and the Parco dei Mulini, which descends from the center in thermal streams that, under the town, fed the mills and a free thermal pool.
SAN QUIRICO D'ORCIA with its historic center, its churches and the Horti Leonini gardens is the last village we propose to you, however there are still due
stops, one just outside San Quirico is the
CYPRESS AVENUE FROM THE FILM GLADIATOR, where the scene of Massimo Meridio's return home was filmed and finally, on the road that leads back to Pienza,
THE VITALETA CHAPEL, another iconic image in thousands of Tuscan postcards

At this point you will have returned to Pienza, from where you can choose to return towards Bettolle to enter the A1 or, if you are not satisfied with our beautiful valley,
continue towards MONTEPULCIANO and its Rosso and Nobile wine cellars ;-)
