The Medicea Fortress of Lucignano

Lucignano's elliptical historic center, with its narrow streets, churches, and museum featuring the Albero dell'Amore (Tree of Love), often captures the attention of tourists.
But just outside the town walls, the remains of the Medicea Fortress are also not to be missed.
Built in the mid-1500s on behalf of Cosimo de' Medici, it was intended to strengthen the defenses of one of the most strategically important points in the Val di Chiana.
Today, portions of the walls remain visible, including an entrance gate and two circular towers.
The towers were not originally part of the fortress; they were added later to serve as mills.
One of the aforementioned towers is accessible to the highest point, offering spectacular views of both sides of the Val di Chiana—the Arezzo and Siena sides—as well as Lucignano itself.
Probably the most romantic place to enjoy the sunset in the town of love.
